Small Victories Shiraz

EDEN VALLEY | VINTAGE 2022

WINEMAKER COMMENTS

We love the way this wine has come together, the purity of fruit so typical of Eden Valley really shows through. The slightly higher altitude of the vineyard means cooler nights and less intense maximum daytime temperatures allow great aromatic presence.

Winemaking

Season 2022 kept us on tenterhooks with the threat of rain, particularly with this later ripening fruit from Eden Valley, however the rain held off and allowed harvest at a great balance between sweetness and acidity.
Winemaking a hand-picked whole bunch component was spread over the base of the open fermenter before putting the destemmed portion on top. Cool fermentation with pumpovers for 10 days before pressing and immediate transfer on solids to seasoned French oak.
Maturation the last throws of fermentation and malolactic fermentation were on lees in oak followed by further maturation in seasoned French oak. 7 months total time in oak.

Reviews / Awards

Another easy-drinking Eden Valley shiraz from Jules and Bec Ashmead. Shows ripe plum and black-fruited exuberance with gentle whole-bunch spice and amaro tones, hints of raspberry coulis, citrus blossom, cedar, blueberry pie, licorice and jasmine. Deep yet juicy with a stony, savoury tannin bed and a bright acid line for propulsion. Good juicy drinking. -SPECIAL VALUE FOR MONEY - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
Attractively fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows dark plum, red cherry, game and clove nuances, combined with smooth texture and well rounded tannins, finishing juicy and silky. Medium-full and elegantly flavoursome with a lingering comforting finish. At its best: now to 2028 -Sam Kim - Wine Orbit
The 2022 Eden Valley Shiraz is spicy and floral on the nose—there is raspberry leaf tea, frangipani, milk chocolate, graphite and star anise, with black tea and red licorice to boot. This is a delicious, lighter-framed Shiraz here. A beauty. -Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
